THE MBBR CONCEPT

     MBBR ( Moving Bed Bio Reactor)  waste water treatment plant can be described as a confined space in which the organic digestive microorganisms  get  attached to  specially designed plastic media called  AGM ( Attached Growth Media) . The AGM Bio Media become carriers that build floating bed in the waste water. The Bio-Film grows on the bio media surface and moves along with the water inside the reactor chamber  creating what we call the biomass, the efficiency of this biomass  in reducing  the organic load in waste water is behinde the success of MBBR system.

     Once submerged inside the bioreactor, the AGM Bio Media operates as  non-clogging media. No channels or dead spots like in other technologies. The movement is caused by efficient aeration, system well designed according to the effluent requirements. The AGM Bio Media optimizes growth (biomass), and provides shelter and protection for the biomass and makes the WWTP extremely robust and reliable.

     The AGM  Bio Media has proven to be superior to any known bio media and can handle pH variation, shock loading, temperature variations, and drastically reduce the size of a WWTP.

DESCRIPTION OF WWTP RUNNING WITH MBBR PROCESS 

   
T            The waste water is firstly subjected to a screening process (Fine and Coarse), to separate papers sanitary pads and all settle able solids. This process is followed by the  settling – lifting process intended to remove all solid particles from the waste water and  pump the waste water to the buffer (equalising) basin . The waste water from the equalization basin is then pumped to the MBBR tank. The proposed biological treatment process is called the MBBR AGM (Attached Growth on Media) process. The AGM media will be installed in a biological reactor with hydraulic retention time of 4-5 hours. The reactor will be divided into three aerobic stages; each stage will be proportionally filled with AGM biomass carrier. Aeration will be secured via coarse bubble diffusers installed at the reactor’s bottom in the required pattern. Unique airlift hydraulics will assure continuous mixing of biomass carriers in the chambers. A stainless steel wedge wire screen will be installed at the outlet of each stage in order to maintain the carriers inside the reactor; whereas mixed liquor may flow unobstructed. The wedge wire screens are continuously cleaned by the mixing flow of water, air bubbles and biomass carriers.

The treated waste water will flow from the biological reactor to the solid-liquid separator (sludge thickener). The thickening (solid- liquid separation) process is expedited by adding flocculating agents to the effluent water.  A flocculation tank including chemical preparation unit is installed prior to the sludge thickener. The 3% solid content sludge obtained in the thickener is converted to 20% solid content cake by passing it through a specially designed belt press.

1. THE MBBR BIO REACTOR TANKS
   
      The containers we produce have waste water treatment capacity from 25m3- 400m3/ day. 6mm thick steel that is used in the ship industry is always used in our tanks; our carful engineering calculation helps us secures the minimum welding joints in the tank structure. We are capable of manufacturing 12 M long joint less tank. The internaland the external tank surfaces are protected against corrosion with very high quality epoxy paint. The tank is divided into three separate chambers; the volume of each chamber is carefully calculated to secure themaximum efficiency in water treatment..


 
 

   

 

     The AQUA SMART® MBBR tanks are unique in their design, though they are fully covered, the carbon dioxide gas’ build up in the tank is prevented, a double purpose perforated steel strip is fitted on the tank’s roof to serve as a walk way and as a carbon dioxide relief opening. The remaining part of the tank’s roof is covered by 1.2 mm thick steel sheets 750mmx 950 mm in size hinged to the tank’s body and can be lifted separately for spot inspection.



 
 
 
 
 
2. THE BIO MEDIA

    In our AQUA SMART® system, we either use the Aqwise Biomass carrier or the AMB BIOMEDIA carrier, regardless the media type used 950m2 surface area /m3 media is always used in our system.

     Our tank is divided into three separated chambers , the amount of BIO MEDIA added to each chamber is calculated and introduced accordingly ,the waste water’s BOD values are gradually reduced as the waste water passes from one chamber to the next ,   a BOD value of   20 mg/L is always attainable by this process,   BOD values of 10 mg/ L or even less are also achieved by circulating back part of the effluent water to the   tank’s first chamber .

 



3. THE BELT PRESS

      To dewater the sludge we always use belt press instead of filter press or decanter. In countries where energy is scarce the belt press is a must since it consumes much less electricity than the decanter , as far as the filter press is concerned though it is cheaper as an investment ,it coasts double in manpower since it is manually operated ,thus on the long run the most economical dewatering system is the Belt Press.

Since each plant is built for certain purpose the PLC program and the control panels provided are always tailor made to suit the plant erected. The PLC program and the panel design is made in our company and before the automation system is executed it is always checked and approved by a senior PLC engineer in Siemens AG.
